Jurgen Klopp has demanded to have Liverpool's Premier League clash against Tottenham Hotspur replayed following the controversy that marked the tie.

The two English giants faced off on Saturday, September 30, with Tottenham emerging as the victors, albeit controversially.

The north Londoners sunk the Reds 2-1 during the thrilling encounter, with Joel Matip scoring an own goal to gift Spurs victory at the death.

However, Luis Diaz's first-half goal, which was mistakenly disallowed, became the biggest taking point after the match.

According to Metro UK, Diaz had his goal ruled out for offside, with replays showing he was kept onside by Spurs defender Cristian Romero.

The decision not to award the goal sparked anger and outrage from several quarters that questioned the legitimacy of VAR.

The Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) went on to release a statement admitting the goal should have counted after a 'significant human error' in the VAR room.

Klopp demands replay

The refereeing body went on to release audio from the VAR decision earlier in the week, with the clip painting a picture of how the refereeing blunder occurred.

Klopp has now asked for a replay of the fixture in the wake of PGMOL's admission to error and the release of the clip.

"That all people involved, referees, linesman, fourth officials and especially VAR, they didn’t do that on purpose and we should not forget that. It was an obvious mistake and I think there would have been solutions after it," Klopp said as quoted by talkSPORT.

"But as a football person I think the only outcome should be a replay, that is how it is. It probably won’t happen," he added.

Can Tottenham vs. Liverpool be replayed?

Earlier, Sports Brief reported it is understood that a replay could have happened had referee Hooper gone back and reversed the decision to award the goal.

Such a move would have led to a 'fundamental breach of the protocols and the Laws of the Game.'

This could have seen Tottenham protest due to the violation of the current laws, prompting the Football Association to agree with the Premier League that the match should be replayed.
